Introduction
Radiosurgery is defined as the noninvasive
destruction of a discrete target area
in
the body using the precise delivery
of a
high dose of radiation. The Body Gamma
Knife
is the gold-standard of radiosurgery
and
is an instrument dedicated to the delivery
of focused radiation. The Body Gamma
Knife
utilizes an array of 30 separate cobalt-60
sources which emit gamma ray photons
at a
predictable rate. The 30 separate gamma
rays
provide for precise delivery of radiation
to the specified target while pretecting
the surrounding normal tissue. The
Body Gamma
Knife delivers the specified dose with
a
precision of 1.0mm.
